Company’s strategies for the ecological transition, including differentiation of its lines of business and energy sustainability

Ansaldo Energia is publishing its first sustainability report, a document demonstrating its commitment to  the environment to all its stakeholders, the community, and the general public.

During the current delicate phase of recovery of the economy following the pandemic, at a time of energy transition and green change, the report is intended to certify Ansaldo Energia’s focus on making its business more sustainable.

Ansaldo Energia is committed to contributing to achievement of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs) sanctioned by the United Nations’ Global Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015.  To achieve this goal, it aims first to improve its own energy sustainability, implementing innovative energy generation systems offering less environmental impact and more flexibility, and then its own corporate sustainability, with improved management methods pursuing the goal of sustainable, inclusive growth.

The report is the first step in a process of sustainability reporting, proof that Ansaldo Energia has taken this important step in the direction of transparency and ongoing improvement. The report includes important statistics demonstrating commitment to the environment, such as a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (-280.6 tCO2e of direct greenhouse gas emissions and -1,563.8 of induced emissions), a decrease in water consumption (-20.2%) and production of special wastes (-10.5% per hour worked) compared to the previous year.

In 2020 Ansaldo Energia became the first Italian company in the industry to obtain Biosafety Trust Certification, a new form of certification of best practices minimising the risk of spreading epidemics, in addition to ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 45001 (safety management), ISO9001 (quality

management) and ISO 37001 (anti-corruption) certification.

“The extraordinary nature of the year 2020 led us to take a closer look at our own processes and actions and our relationship with our stakeholders. This reflection, in addition to world-wide demand for attention to sustainability issues, led to the decision to create and certify our first sustainability report, and we are very proud of this achievement,” comments Irma Belardi, Head of Corporate HR and Sustainability. “Beginning with its products and competences, Ansaldo Energia has the opportunity to play a key role in the years to come in promoting a transition to an energy-efficient economy producing less CO2 emissions, with the goal of giving absolute priority to the green and digital transitions,” concludes Belardi.

The report also looks into the evolution of professional development and growth, digitalisation of the supply chain and investment in the community.
