New decommissioning & waste treatment solutions
Ansaldo Nucleare invests in the development of innovative technologies for the treatment and conditioning of radioactive waste:
- reduction of spent ion exchange resins by wet oxidation (WOX),
- decontamination of metal waste with phosphoric acid and subsequent vitrification,
- minimization of low- and medium-waste disposal volumes, and secure storage in high-integrity nuclear containers,
- confinement of long-lived radioactive waste for disposal in geological repositories.
In a spirit of collaboration and sharing, Ansaldo Nucleare participates, together with many other Italian organizations, in several Horizon 2020 projects on radioactive waste management (PREDIS, CLEANDEM) and on the decommissioning of nuclear power plants (INNO4GRAPH).
