At IREN power plant in Moncalieri

Ansaldo Energia has recently completed a major maintenance overhaul at the IREN power plant in Moncalieri (Torino), adopting a strategy based on pre-assembled, factory-refurbished components.
This approach was designed to minimize outage and enhance operational efficiency.

By reconditioning key gas turbine components before the planned outage, we significantly reduced the time required for on-site work and ensured a faster return to operation.

Optimized Maintenance Strategy: How It Works

The advanced refurbishment of strategic turbine components was the key to achieving a faster turnaround in this overhaul.
Specifically:

The rotor, combustion chamber, and turbine vane carrier had already undergone a complete reconditioning process at our factory before the maintenance outage began.

Since these components were ready for installation before disassembly took place, the time required for their replacement was significantly reduced.

Once the pre-refurbished components were installed, the removed ones were sent back to our facility to undergo the same reconditioning process, making them available for future scheduled outages.

Execution and Workforce Involvement

The project was completed with a team of about 100 skilled professionals, including field service engineers, logistics specialists, and maintenance technicians.

The combination of smart planning, efficient execution, and strategic use of refurbished components enabled a faster, more sustainable solution for power plant.

This maintenance approach not only minimized outage but also contributed to cost savings, improved efficiency, and long-term sustainability in plant operations.

Through this operation, our customers can benefit from a highly optimized maintenance process that enhances operational reliability while reducing overall lifecycle costs.
