UZATOM IN GENOA, STRENGTHENING COOPERATION WITH ANSALDO ENERGIA

| News | Press releases

The mission followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last May.

Opportunities for collaboration in the nuclear sector, joint development of technologies and expertise, and the strengthening of industrial and institutional ties between Italy and Uzbekistan were the main topics addressed during the visit to Genoa by the Director of the Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Agency (Uzatom), Azim Akhmedkhadjaev. The visit began on Monday, October 20, and concluded yesterday.

The mission followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last May between Ansaldo Energia and Uzatom. It is part of Uzbekistan’s broader nuclear development program, which aims to build new-generation power plants to diversify the country’s national energy mix.

The Uzatom delegation met with the top management of Ansaldo Energia and its subsidiary Ansaldo Nucleare to explore potential roles for the Group and the Italian supply chain in Uzbekistan’s nuclear program.

The three-day visit also included an institutional meeting with key local stakeholders — Regione Liguria, the Municipality of Genoa, the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria Genova, Confindustria Liguria, and the Italian Institute of Technology — hosted at the Genoa Chamber of Commerce. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore synergies between the Ligurian industrial ecosystem and Uzbekistan’s energy sector, with the goal of fostering collaboration among industry, institutions, and research centers.

During their stay in Genoa, the Uzatom delegation also visited the Ansaldo Energia facilities, the Fondazione Ansaldo headquarters, and the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS) of the Italian Institute of Technology.
