The Story of the Turbigo Power Plant's Generators

Ansaldo Energia success story

A few days ago, the activities centered on the TRXL63 generator built by Ansaldo Energia for the Iren thermoelectric plant in Turbigo, Lombardy, were completed.

The journey of the alternator started on 22 September 2021 when, due to its large size and weight - about 300 tons - it was boarded on the Happy River ship headed to Porto Marghera (Venice).

Once in the lagoon, the generator was reloaded onto a river barge which, sailing on the Po river, took it to the Port of Cremona. At this point, the generator was positioned on a special road convoy which, crossing the Po valley, delivered it to its destination in the Turbigo power plant.

In the past few days, after specific processing and assembly operations, the generator was raised and lowered into the special reinforced concrete foundation, thanks to a hydraulic system controlled by a joystick via computer.

A complex civil and mechanical engineering operation that has shown, once again, the fruitful synergy between Ansaldo Energia and its supply chain.
