Today Ansaldo Energia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzatom Agency), aimed at exploring collaboration in advanced nuclear technologies and the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
The MoU was signed by Andrea Benveduti, Senior Vice President Public Affairs and Institutional Relations of Ansaldo Energia, and Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of Uzatom Agency. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and H.E. Piergabriele Papadia de Bottini, Ambassador of Italy to Uzbekistan.
Under this agreement, Ansaldo Energia and Uzatom will pursue strategic cooperation in areas such as the design and construction of next-generation nuclear power plants, nuclear waste management solutions, and professional training programs. Particular attention will be dedicated to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), responding to the global demand for affordable, programmable, and decarbonized energy.
Ansaldo Energia, through its subsidiary Ansaldo Nucleare, brings extensive experience in nuclear technology, including Generation III and Generation IV reactors, as well as fusion reactor technologies. The partnership includes joint professional development initiatives to strengthen technical expertise in nuclear energy.
This collaboration reinforces Italy's strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, promoting economic growth and technological innovation in both countries.
