In 2025, Ansaldo Energia filed 13 new patents, bringing its total portfolio to 1,954 active patents. The result was presented today during the company’s 2026 Innovation Day and confirms the central role of innovation for the Group, which is committed to developing technologies that support energy security and the energy transition.
The event served as an opportunity to present the patents and the stories behind the company’s technological advancements, as well as the 30 process and product innovation projects developed over the past year by employees from all Group locations.
The event opened with remarks from Ansaldo Energia’s CEO, Fabrizio Fabbri, who emphasized the importance of industry as an enabler of innovation. The introductory session, led by Davide Pinna, Head of Intellectual Property and Design Process Quality, reviewed the evolution of the company’s intellectual property portfolio. Alberto Diaspro, professor at the University of Genoa and Director of Research in Nanoscopy at IIT, offered insights on the connection between advanced scientific research and emerging industrial applications.
The morning also featured contributions from Alberto Improda, owner of the Improda law firm and expert in intellectual property, and Maria Nives Riggio, Deputy Director General of FILSE, who discussed technological challenges, protection of know-how, and the evolution of the innovation ecosystem.
The event concluded with a celebration of the inventors who, in recent years, have contributed to expanding the company’s technological heritage.
“This event confirmed how central innovation is for the company,” said Federico Bonzani, Chief Technology Officer of the Ansaldo Energia Group. “We are at the forefront of using hydrogen for electricity production, upgrading plants to reduce consumption and emissions, developing electrolyzers for green hydrogen, and advancing fourth-generation nuclear reactors. We continue to invest in innovation to consolidate our position as a global player in the energy generation sector.”
