On 31 October, Ansaldo Green Tech, a company of the Ansaldo Energia Group, and CFFT, the Italian subsidiary of the Belgian logistics group Noord Natie, signed a contract for the sale and installation of the first electrolyser produced by Ansaldo Green Tech. The agreement envisages the supply and commissioning of 1 MW electrolyser based on the innovative AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) technology, designed, and manufactured by Ansaldo Green Tech as part of the IPCEI project funded by the European Union – “NextGenerationEU”. The electrolyser will be installed at the CFFT inland port, in Civitavecchia (Rome, Italy), and will produce green hydrogen to power a hydrogen vehicle refueling station. The delivery of the plant is expected by the end of 2025.
The AEM Electrolyser developed by Ansaldo Green Tech is an innovative product, capable of producing over 500 kg of hydrogen per day, ensuring cutting-edge performance and superior sustainability compared to competing technologies. In particular, the plant is characterized by high efficiency and operational flexibility, a lower use of critical raw materials, the use of low-concentration electrolyte, and a reduced water footprint, that implies a lower need for water.
"I thank CFFT for the credit and trust granted to Ansaldo Green Tech and the Guglielmo Marconi University for the support given to the integration of our technology into the project. I am confident that this pilot plant will pave the way for further collaborations between our companies – says Vittorio Olcese, CEO of Ansaldo Green Tech –We are convinced that this initiative will give an important boost to the hydrogen economy, and we are proud to contribute with innovative technologies to the energy transition process."
"The agreement signed with Ansaldo Green Tech makes a decisive contribution to the Group's sustainability strategy – underlined Steven Clerckx, Managing Director of CFFT – The installation of the first electrolyser at our facilities, is a testament to our commitment to the transformation process of our port logistics. The choice for the state-of-the art technology wherefore Ansaldo stands, emphases our ambition for the complete decarbonization of our Company in 2028. By developing this plant, we are determined to play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions across industrial and logistic sectors and strive for a cleaner planet for future generations."
