Ansaldo Energia recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of Integrated Plant Support (IPS), its 24/7 monitoring and diagnostic platform supporting power plant operators worldwide. Launched as a remote monitoring service, IPS has evolved into a modern ecosystem combining advanced diagnostics and predictive capabilities. Today, IPS monitors more than 38 GW of installed capacity and 320 rotating machines through its twin centres in Genoa and Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi centre has recently moved to a new location, enabling closer integration with the activities of the new Ansaldo Energia Gulf headquarters.
For customers, IPS means earlier detection of potential issues, faster troubleshooting and better-informed maintenance decisions. Through continuous condition monitoring, advanced diagnostics and early warnings, IPS helps operators maximize plant availability and reliability while improving efficiency and operational flexibility.
“IPS has evolved together with our customers and their operational needs,” said Reto Furrer, Executive Vice President Thermal Service at Ansaldo Energia. “By combining digital technologies with our engineering expertise, we help customers improve the reliability, availability and overall performance of their assets.”
The anniversary event, held at Fondazione Ansaldo in Genoa, brought together Ansaldo Energia employees and alumni, the IPS team and customers to look back at the evolution of the service and discuss its future, including predictive analytics, artificial intelligence and closer collaboration with plant operators.
“IPS has always combined engineering knowledge, operational experience and continuous innovation,” said Luca Buzzoni, Head of Service Engineering at Ansaldo Energia. “Our teams in Genoa and Abu Dhabi work alongside customers 24/7, turning plant data into timely actions. Technology evolves, but engineering know-how remains at the heart of IPS.”
From remote monitoring to predictive diagnostics, IPS continues to evolve. Its scope is now set to expand beyond gas turbines, steam turbines and generators to Ansaldo Green Tech electrolysers. IPS will thus bring its monitoring and diagnostic expertise to hydrogen producers, helping improve plant efficiency and reliability.
