ANSALDO ENERGIA TO UPGRADE ENERWAVE-OWNED THISVI POWER PLANT IN GREECE

| News | Press releases

The upgrade will increase the plant’s output while increasing overall efficiency

Increased efficiency, greater operational flexibility and reduced CO₂ emissions are at the heart of the upgrade announced for the Thisvi combined cycle power plant, in Greece, in operation since 2010. Ansaldo Energia has been awarded the contract by Enerwave S.A., member of the HELLENiQ ENERGY, one of the leading energy groups in Southeast Europe, to implement a comprehensive enhancement of the plant’s AE94.3A gas turbine, with installation scheduled for March 2027. With the renewal of the previous Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA), Ansaldo Energia will also provide technical support for the next 14 years.

The upgrade will increase the plant’s output while increasing overall efficiency. These improvements will reduce fuel consumption, lowering operating costs and contributing to a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. In addition, the ramp rate will be increased, ensuring rapid response to grid fluctuations linked to the growing penetration of renewable energy.

“We are convinced that Ansaldo Energia’s upgrades over the Thisvi power plant will substantially increase the unit’s overall performance, assisting Enerwave on adding more value on the Greek energy system.”, said Antonis Argyrakis, Power Generation Director of Enerwave SA.

“This project once again demonstrates how Ansaldo Energia’s upgrades can enhance the value of existing assets. The Thisvi power plant will be better equipped to meet the evolving needs of the Greek electricity system and to ensure long term energy security”, said Reto Furrer, EVP Thermal Service of Ansaldo Energia. “We are grateful to Enerwave for the continued trust placed in our know-how and for the longstanding partnership that will continue in the years ahead.”
