The upgrade of the ENGIE power plant in Leinì has been successfully completed by Ansaldo Energia. The upgrade involved the replacement of the existing gas turbine with a new AE94.3A, the replacement of the generator and the upgrade of all related auxiliary systems. Started in April 2024, the upgrade was completed a few days ahead of schedule of schedule and has improved the efficiency and power of the plant, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Initial tests have demonstrated that the targets in terms of both efficiency and reduction of CO and NOX emissions have been fully met.
“This accomplishment once again proves the Ansaldo Energia's role in supporting energy security and transition. – says Stefano Gianatti, Executive Vice President Thermal New Units of Ansaldo Energia - We are grateful to ENGIE for the trust it has once again placed in Ansaldo Energia's products, technologies and expertise, and we are pleased to have completed the work ahead of schedule and in full compliance with the project specifications, ensuring that the power plant is back in operation to meet the demand of the national electricity grid”.
Ansaldo Energia's AE94.3A gas turbine boasts more than 110 units in operation worldwide and more than 5 million cumulative operating hours. Thanks to its high efficiency, the AE94.3A is ideal for combined-cycle solutions, while its operational flexibility, guaranteed by the hardware and control system, makes it suitable for responding to demand peaks from the electricity grid as well as for supplying thermal energy for district heating, as in the case of the Leinì power plant.
