Ansaldo Energia News: Gas turbines and generators for the project "Reconstruction of Almaty CHPP-3" in the Republic of Kazakhstan

| News | Press releases

Reservation Agreement has been signed.

Fast production and delivery of components expected.

Two AE94.2 gas turbines, two generators and all related auxiliary components: this is the object of the agreement between Ansaldo Energia and KBI Energy Group, an important Kazakh company which is the EPC contractor for this project. The two companies signed the Reservation Agreement which provides for the customer's pre-emption of the production lines against the payment of an advance on the total amount the contract, which will be signed in the next months. The agreement provides for the early start of the components production, which will allow for an extremely rapid delivery, thus successfully responding to customer’s needs.

The project provides for the installation of modern environmentally friendly and flexible combined-cycle power units using natural gas, to replace the existing pulverized coal equipment. The realization of the project will reduce CO2 emissions per kWh produced by more than 50 per cent and will almost eliminate emissions of particulate matter and other pollutants. The considerable increase in efficiency compared to the current system will allow the customer to produce electricity in a more sustainable way and at lower costs.

The combined cycles based on the AE94.2 gas turbine allow for high efficiency and an increase of full-load capacity. Furthermore, like the entire fleet of Ansaldo Energia gas turbines, the AE94.2 is also already set up for the use of hydrogen (in the specific case up to 40% mixed with natural gas) and features high flexibility of load, capable of responding in real time to the needs of the electricity grid. With more than 120 units installed worldwide and 9 million hours of cumulated operation, the AE94.2 has demonstrated excellent results in terms of operational efficiency and reliability.

In addition to the supply agreement, the two companies are also discussing long term cooperation in the power generation sector, focusing in particular on the area of technical expertise and maintenance of power generation equipment in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

«This agreement is an important signal in the commercial consolidation path of Ansaldo Energia and confirms the competitiveness of our products on a global scale. We are sure that KBI Energy Group will be satisfied with our machines and services, and we are confident that this is the beginning of a long-lasting partnership in the Central Asia and Caucasus area, which is experiencing a phase of fast transformation, and which sees the creation of growing commercial links with Italy», says Stefano Gianatti, Executive Vice President New Units of Ansaldo Energia.
