The new “8th November” combined cycle power plant in Mingachevir, developed by Azerenerji, has been officially inaugurated today. The plant marks a significant milestone for the modernization of Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure and its efforts to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions. The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, High-ranking government officials and Mr. Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia.
Ansaldo Energia supplied four advanced AE94.3A gas turbines and four generators for this landmark installation. The AE94.3A gas turbine stands out for its outstanding operational flexibility, proven reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, AE94.3A is ready to burn up to 40% hydrogen in blend with natural gas. With more than 125 units sold worldwide and over 5 million equivalent operating hours accumulated, the AE94.3A gas turbine has become a trusted choice for utilities.
"I am pleased to be back in Azerbaijan today for the inauguration of this innovative plant, completed in just two years thanks also to the crucial contribution of Italy. Goal achieved. This is the power plant with the highest production capacity in the country, built with Italian technology from Ansaldo Energia: a state-of-the-art facility that will play a key role in achieving the country’s energy goals, as well as its environmental targets, with a 50% reduction in emissions," said Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
“We are deeply satisfied and proud to have contributed to the realization of this ambitious project, which stands at the intersection of innovation, performance and sustainability,” said Stefano Gianatti, EVP Thermal New Units of Ansaldo Energia. “We look forward with confidence to future opportunities to further support Azerenerji and the Republic of Azerbaijan in their path toward energy security and transition.”
The success of the Mingachevir project was achieved through close and effective coordination between Ansaldo Energia, Azerenerji, and local contractors. The relationship between Ansaldo Energia and Azerenerji has been further solidified by a Memorandum of Understanding signed during COP29 in Baku in November 2024, covering cooperation in hydrogen technologies, grid flexibility, workforce training, and broader energy transition objectives.
