Ansaldo Nucleare has been awarded an Engineering Procurement and Construction contract by the Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NEK) for Phase 3 of the Safety Upgrade Programme at Krško NPP.
NEK is implementing, in the frame of the plant's long-term operations activities, a Safety Upgrade Programme to address the safety implications highlighted by the Fukushima event. The three-phased programme represents one of the most complete and consistent responses of the nuclear industry to the Fukushima event.
This contract together with the ongoing long-term operations activities and modernization activities in Argentina establishes Ansaldo Nucleare as one of the major players in the long-term operations activities and safety upgrade programmes for PWRs and Heavy Water reactors.
The contract works will be completed by December 2021. The project is divided into following main activities:
- Design and realization of a Bunkerized Building (BB2) including auxiliary systems (HVAC, Fire, Lighting etc.)
Design, procurement, installation and commissioning of:
Alternate Safety Injection System
Alternate Emergency Feedwater System
Emergency Electrical System
Ansaldo Nucleare acts as Main Contractor with the support of Tractebel Engineering and a number of qualified Slovenian and Croatian companies that include Kolektor CPG for the civil construction activities, IBE-Sipro-Ekonerg for supporting detailed design activities, Elmont and Numip for the electrical and mechanical installations respectively.
During the contract signature ceremony held on August 1st, Roberto Adinolfi, CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare declared that "This contract summarises what Ansaldo Nucleare stands for: A Company that has all the in-house capabilities to successfully complete on time multidisciplinary projects of significant size". For NEK, as expressed by Stanislav Rožman, President of the Krško NPP Management Board: "This project is significant for future operation of the Krško NPP. It represents the final stage of the Safety Upgrade Program (SUP). By implementing the SUP, the long-term operations regulatory requirements will be met and the plant will be ready for continuous operation."
