Hydrogenerators
The configuration of large hydrogenerators varies widely
according to water flow and head conditions at specific
hydroplants, with rotation speeds ranging from 50 rpm to
1,200 rpm.
This broad range of applications generates an average
worldwide demand for new hydropower plants of about 9
GW/year or 15% of the total for power plants in general.
Ansaldo Energia currently produces three basic types of
hydrogenerator:
- generators for river flow (low/medium speed);
- generators for high-head plants (medium/high speed);
- motor-generators for pumped storage systems.
